At this time of year people are making their end-of-year giving plans. You may need to take payouts from your IRA or annuities which if made directly to a nonprofit may provide you tax benefits. (Note: Consult your tax expert or accountant about these kinds of donations.)
This is also the time of year for Giving Week sponsored by the Mt. Dora Community Trust (MDCT). Last year the Trout Lake Nature Center participated in the MDCT's Giving Week and received matching funds that helped us make improvements to our habitats, facilities and programs. During Giving Week, nonprofits compete for their share of a $100,000 matching donation pot. The top four nonprofits in the various categories qualify for a portion of these matching funds.
