On January 11 starting at 1:30 PM, we will be having a twofer day at the Trout Lake Nature Center (TLNC), 520 East CR 44, Eustis. What’s a twofer day? It is when you have the chance of seeing two programs on the same afternoon. The first program is called Winter Stars. Mike Ryan, TLNC’s astronomy expert will share with you how to identify the stars visible in our winter skies. You will leave this presentation with a star chart to take home and continue your learning.
Then at 2:30 PM, a program about Florida’s gopher tortoises will start. Claudia Rowe, TLNC Office Manager and retired Lake County Science teacher will share what she knows about this iconic turtle. As a threatened species, gopher tortoises are called a keystone species because of the hundreds of other animals that depend on them for their burrows. Learn about their behaviors, habitats, what they eat and their habits.
Come and make a day of it. On Saturday TLNC opens at 9 AM and closes at 4 PM which will give you time to walk the trails and explore our exhibits.
No reservation is required. The programs are free but there is a $5/vehicle entry fee. TLNC members enter for free. For more information, visit www.troutlakenaturecenter.com or call 352-357-7536
