Environmental Education Landscape Analysis Virtual Workshops

    In 2020, the Southeastern Environmental Education Alliance also known as SEEA embarked a landscape analysis of environmental education efforts in eight southeastern states including Florida. This project was the result of a collective desire to gain an enhanced understanding of the environmental education providers who are working towards similar goals.

     To understand the landscape of environmental education in the southeast, more than seven hundred environmental education providers were surveyed including the Trout Lake Nature Center. This analysis looked at the field as a whole and can be used to build or strengthen environmental education programs and networks across the Southeast and in Florida.

     In 2022, the EE Landscape Analysis was expanded to include K-12 schools, teachers, and administrators. More than 600 teachers and administrators were surveyed to better understand what, if any, environmental education was taking place within and outside the classroom and to identify barriers and gaps.

   The Trout Lake Nature Center was an integral part of developing and conducting the Analysis in Florida. Through a partnership with the League of Environmental Educators in Florida (LEEF), TLNC is now conducting virtual one-hour workshops (starting in August) on what was learned, where the gaps exist and what the barriers. Workshops are designed to look at how environmental education in Florida can improve and help solve some of our natural resources challenges.
