Naturalist Program: Oysters and Mangroves
What happens inland doesn’t stop at the shoreline.
The Trout Lake Nature Center will host “Do Your Part for Our Marine Areas” on April 17, 2026, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, featuring Lake County conservation practitioner Trampis Bonjorn.
Bonjorn’s work demonstrates how local action leads to big change. His team collects and recycles oyster shells, returning them to coastal waters where they form new reef systems that filter water, reduce erosion, and create vital habitat for marine life. The program will also spotlight mangrove propagation efforts that stabilize coastlines and provide nursery areas for young fish and other wildlife.
These efforts begin here—because what we do in our own backyards affects Florida’s coastal environments. Water, nutrients, and materials travel through our lakes and rivers to the sea. Protecting these inland systems helps ensure healthy estuaries and thriving marine ecosystems downstream.
Water moves. Systems connect.
No registration required but there is a $5/vehicle entry fee for all non-members.
