The Lake Beautyberry Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society (FNPS) is having a native plant sale October 9, 2022 at Trout Lake Nature Center in Eustis.
We will be offering native shrubs for privacy fences and shelter and nesting areas for the birds as well as colorful native wildflowers for the pollinators. We will also be offering vines and ground covers and butterfly host plants. All plants were grown locally by Green Isle Nursery in Groveland. Native plant informational handouts will be offered and chapter members will be available to help you choose the best plants for your purpose and site location.
The sale starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 1:00 p.m. at the Trout Lake Nature Center, 520 East, County Road 44, Eustis (entrance off CR44). Gates open at 9:00 a.m. Parking will be in the central area near the main building where there will be parking volunteers to guide you. Volunteers will be available to help you load your car. Cash and credit cards accepted. Feel free to enjoy the trails at Trout Lake Nature Center while you are there.
Proceeds from the sale will benefit Lake County’s Lake Beautyberry Chapter of the
Florida Native Plant Society to help us promote the preservation, conservation, and restoration of the native plants and native plant communities here in northern Lake County, Florida and Trout Lake Nature Center.

The Gulf Coast Academy students will visit TLNC for lessons on Bears. Staff and volunteers teach hands-on, interactive lessons to the visiting children and accompanying adults. Although still open to the public, access to some areas may be restricted for activities.

Nature has inspired many artists through the centuries and now is no different. As you walk through the woods, cross a meadow or watch a butterfly flutter, you can be inspired. In the coming months, the Trout Lake Nature Center will be offering ways to be inspired and then express yourself creatively.
Watercolor artist Ellen Westerholm will teach a series of four watercolor lessons. Westerholm provides the paint, brushes and paper along with instruction to create stunning paintings. Westerholm has taught painting for many years with great success and loves to share her passion for painting and creating with others.
The first class will be on October 12 from 1:30 to 3:30 PM at the Trout Lake Nature Center, 520 East CR 44, Eustis. The remaining classes take place on Nov. 9 from 1:30 to 3:30 PM, Jan. 14 from 10:30 AM to noon, and Feb. 8 from 1:30 to 3:30 PM. Cost for each class is $50. Because of the personalized instruction, the number of participants is limited and is on a first-registered, first-serve basis.

A Jr. Master Naturalist Club called the Trout Lake Woodlanders for 8 to 18 year olds will meet on the third Wednesday after school at the Trout Lake Nature Center. Co-sponsored by Lake County 4-H and TLNC, this club will involve members in hands on learning, field trips, volunteer activities and more. If planning to attend, call 352-357-7536 to register.

Staff from the Lake-Sumter State College will be coming to TLNC to volunteer. Annually these volunteers have come to help out at the Center and make a great difference.
What are brownfields? Are they lawns that have died in droughts? Brownfield are found all over the United States including Lake County and can have a significant impact on surrounding communities. Remember Love Canal, the gasoline plume in DeLeon Springs? The Central Florida Regional Planning Council will come to explain what they are and how a federal grant is helping to identify brownfields in Eustis and surrounding areas and how you could help.
Making a difference not only make other people's lives better but improves your life too. TLNC depends on volunteers to function and continue to meet the increasing demand for programs and visits to our property. This open house will feature the many volunteer activities that you could become involved in at TLNC. Join us to learn what we do and how you can make a difference.

This monthly program is for 2 to 5 year old children and their favorite adults to learn about nature in an age-appropriate fashion. Making positive nature connections if important for your child's brain development, learning and mental health. Register by calling or emailing the contact listed.
