River otters look like fun, cute animals that frolic in local waters but they are really fierce predators that are very protective of their space. Learn to paint an otter under the direction of watercolor artist Ellen Westerholm. Cost is $50/person which includes entry fee and all needed art materials.

From guarding livestock in Africa to sniffing out pythons in Florida, dogs are helping conserve wildlife, plants, and habitats in many - and sometimes surprising - ways. Discover the many roles canines play in the conservation field. You will also meet an “eco-detection” dog-in-training and see the steps that go into teaching these dogs to search.

Kris Whipple is a conservation education professional with over 30 years in both the conservation and animal training fields. She is also a certified force-free trainer, certified canine scent detection handler and certified instructor. She currently competes in AKC scent trials and other canine sports with her scent detection partner, Sprig, a 4-year-old Cardigan Welsh Corgi.

Learn to paint a water lily under the direction of watercolor artist and instructor Ellen Westerholm. Cost includes all painting materials and instruction.

Join us for a walk to our dockside to watch the sun set, bird come back to their roost followed by music and snacks at a campfire. You should dress for Florida weather outside, bring a lawn chair (they are more comfortable than our benches), any snacks you desire and a musical instrument so you can join the musicians. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate along with marshmallows for roasting will be provided. Cost is $5/vehicle for non-TLNC members. Gate will be opened around 5:30 PM for entry to the event.

This program is designed for 2 to 5 year olds to have a positive experience in nature when accompanied by an adult. You MUST register to be sure enough supplies are available for all children participating. Dress your child in play clothes and plan for him/her to get dirty. We may be digging in the soil, finding bugs, learning about flowers or hiking in the woods.

Bring your well-mannered dog and join the TLNC pack for a quiet walk on our trails where we end up at the Education Dock. This is an opportunity for you to socialize and your dog to socialize. No reservations are required. All dogs must be kept on a 6 foot lead and owners must pick up after their dogs. Entry fee to TLNC is $5/vehicle. All TLNC members (both dogs and humans) have free entry to our facilities.
